
Latvia Chosen as Host for the EBRD’s 35th Annual Meeting in 2026 to Highlight Investment Opportunities

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 15-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the government of Latvia have officially signed a memorandum of understanding to host the 35th Annual Meeting of the EBRD in Riga from June 5 to 7, 2026. This event will highlight Latvia as a prime investment destination and will be a significant occasion for over 2,000 participants, including government officials, business leaders, policymakers, and academics.
The memorandum outlines the responsibilities for organizing and delivering the meeting, marking the beginning of a collaborative effort between the EBRD and Latvian authorities. The gathering will feature a wide-ranging programme, including the EBRD’s Board of Governors meeting, a Business Forum with a special focus on Latvia’s investment climate, a civil society programme, and the annual Donors’ Meeting.
Kazuhiko Koguchi, EBRD Secretary General, expressed the Bank’s excitement for this collaboration, stating that planning was already underway and was poised for success. Latvia’s Minister of Finance and EBRD Governor, Arvils Ašeradens, also emphasized the honour of hosting the event, highlighting the shared values between Latvia and the EBRD, and the country’s commitment to providing a Baltic perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing the world.
As one of the key institutional investors in Latvia, the EBRD has invested approximately €1.2 billion across 117 projects in Latvia since 1992. These investments have focused on enhancing energy security, improving energy efficiency, strengthening the financial sector, and boosting the export sector’s competitiveness.
